Clinical photography is a recognized parameter in clinical studies. The photography systems used must meet the highest demands of standardization and reproducibility. Lighting, color fidelity, positioning – all the settings themselves must be reproducible over a period of several months. In addition, a system should be mobile, applicable in many situations and secure, and it should also produce images of superior quality. Commercially available systems usually do not provide the combination of all these properties. Since the requirement for high-quality clinical photography is continually increasing, we have developed our own units.
These include a fully automated photography laboratory (USR-CliP – Unit for Standardized and Reproducible Clinical Photography), a system for macro photography, a unit for test areas >50 cm2, a face photography stand, etc. Clinical photos can be used for documentation purposes and may be crucial parameters in clinical trials. The fields of application are manifold – thus, study proofs, for instance for skin diseases such as psoriasis, rosacea and acne, can be conducted. The same applies to the reduction of herpes or pigmentation. Anti-aging proofs, efficacy studies in the areas of attractiveness and decorative cosmetics, to the examination of specific claims such as “brighter teeth” or “fewer scales”.
