As a leading contract research organization for dermatology, oral care, hair care, ophthalmology and intimate hygiene, we have a long track record as a trustworthy partner to more than 750 clients around the world. Amid surging demand for our services – especially in clinical trial support for medicinal products and medical devices – and a rapidly growing workforce, organizational and staffing changes have now become necessary. Effective July 1, proDERM now comprises three units: proDERM Consumer, proDERM Clinical and proDERM Consulting & Innovation.
The restructuring is primarily in response to the different regulatory requirements of the studies we carry out. Cosmetics and consumer products studies are less highly regulated, come with relatively short lead times and may often (but not always) be performed using recurrent standardized procedures, depending on the research objective.
In contrast, clinical trials evaluating the efficacy and safety of medicinal products and medical devices are highly regulated, requiring lengthy preparation and compliance with very high quality standards in terms of documentation and validation.
Our long-standing history of meeting the requirements in both sectors alike is part of what makes our company successful. Our clients and ourselves have long recognized the “collateral benefit” of our “two-way approach.” Our Clinical clients benefit from the methodological skills we have acquired primarily by force of frequent repetition in cosmetics studies; our Consumer clients in turn benefit from the high quality standards we have attained from our pharmaceutical study expertise.
Nevertheless, commitment in both sectors is a constant challenge. To meet the demands even more effectively in future and develop both sectors at an equal rate, we have made a number of changes, both organizational and in our staffing structure.
The Consumer (cosmetics and consumer products) and Clinical (medicinal products and medical devices) areas will become more independent under the common proDERM umbrella, enabling the two to maximize their development potential by boosting their creativity while sharpening their focus at the same time. Another plus: the move makes proDERM’s broad base more visible and transparent for our clients, enabling them to communicate more effectively with us – and vice versa.
The third unit, proDERM Consulting & Innovation, will equip us to address in greater depth our clients’ extensive need for guidance on dermatological evaluation methods and claim support studies, and offer our expertise as a separate service. Stephan Bielfeldt as Vice President and Gunja Springmann as Head of Consultancy will contribute their shared expertise from more than 40 years of experience in consulting.
In the Consumer sector, we have paved the way for the future with our experienced Senior Director Marianne Brandt: Following 18 years of accomplishment in a variety of positions at proDERM, she has now been appointed COO. In addition, three young leaders have accepted new tasks as directors: Roman Karstens for Digital Innovations & Marketing; Sabrina Laing for Operations & Process Optimization; and Iryna Kruse for Customer Relations & Sales.
proDERM Clinical will be managed under the joint leadership of our Senior Directors Dorothea Wilhelm and Bernd Brormann from now on. With their almost 50 years of accumulated experience, they will ensure a focus on science and operations in equal measure throughout the duration of the project.
Innovation and dynamism are our twin strengths that give us the momentum to keep developing new methods and study designs on an interdepartmental basis. The current changes are designed to give us even greater customer proximity and on-point communication. Our aim is to meet our clients’ wishes in the best possible way now and in the future and to facilitate continued sustainable growth.
