We have expanded our services in the detection of the effectiveness of hair products by means of energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX analysis). With this method, we can examine and visualise the silicone film on the hair and, as a result, answer crucial questions about the efficacy of hair products.

Due to their beneficial properties, silicones are often used as ingredients in cosmetic products. In the field of hair care, they are used in conditioners and treatments. This creates a silicone film around each individual hair, which smoothes out unevenness or brittle areas. Overall, the hair becomes smoother and easier to comb as a result.

EDX analysis offers two possible dimensions to the proof of efficacy. On the one hand, the desired filming in the hair can be examined. On the other hand, the ability of a product to remove an existing silicone film can be tested.

The testing itself takes place on standardised hair braids in our hair laboratory. For example the proof of an ability to remove the silicone would be carried out according to the following procedure:

  • Baseline examination of the hair braid
  • Application of the test product
  • Examination of the braid after application
  • Carrying out a hair wash
  • Examination of the braid after shampooing

We will be happy to answer your questions about X-ray spectroscopy. Please contact our Customer Relations & Sales-Team.
